Corpus Christi, which means 'Body of Christ' in Latin, is a Catholic feast celebrating the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. As the Chairman of the Holy Ghost Fathers, Father Gregory Augustine explains that this feast commemorates the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper, when Christ transubstantiated the bread and wine into his own body and blood. Through the consecration of the Eucharist, we believe that the substance of the bread and wine are changed into the substance of Christ's body and blood, while the outward appearances remain. This profound mystery lies at the heart of Catholic theology and sacramental practice.
